OUR JOURNEY
I grew up in London in the nineties.
Jamaican and St Lucian heritage. Born in the UK.
Surrounded by cultures,
traditions and stories from every corner of the world.
I was curious. I listened.
And the more I listened, the more I felt a
question forming. What are my traditions? As
a Black man with Caribbean roots, where do I
trace the thread back to?
That question led me to the Caribbean and then Africa.
To the history that existed before the great
separation. To the ancient tradition of bead
wearing, one of the oldest forms of human
expression on the continent, and what it
means to carry something with deep
intention on your body.
MoyoMantra was born from that search. Not just as a brand. As an answer.
Every piece we make is a vessel. For heritage.
For identity. For the connection that was
never truly lost, just waiting to be worn again.
MOYO
Meaning: Life, well-being, good health, magic charm, or talisman.
MOYO is a word term or meaning used by the Chewa people who are based in Malawi. The language of the Chewa people is Chichewa which is the national language of Malawi. A population of 15 million people.
MANTRA
Meaning: A mantra is an affirmation to motivate and inspire you to be your best self. It is typically a positive phrase or statement that you use to affirm the way you want to live your life.
